Our application process helps us learn about your background, teaching experience, areas of expertise, and motivation for supporting student success. This ensures a strong fit for both tutors and the families we serve.

The process includes:

• Online application submission
• Preliminary interview with a team member
• Formal interview with the owner of Kscholastic, Karla Barcus
• Background check
• Reference check

We welcome applicants who are passionate about education and enjoy working with students. Applicants must, at minimum, have graduated high school.

Ideal candidates include:

• Current or recent college students
• Post-graduates
• Teaching professionals
• Individuals with strong academic skills and tutoring experience

Qualifications include:

• Relevant academic coursework or subject mastery
• Prior tutoring and/or teaching experience 
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Reliable transportation and punctuality
• Availability through at least the end of the academic year

Applicants who can commit long-term (summer and the following school year) are given priority.

No formal teaching certification is required. However, relevant credentials such as tutoring experience, classroom experience, subject-specific training, or academic achievements will strengthen your application.

We are currently hiring exclusively in-person tutors. This involves working directly with students in the Houston area. Tutors must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to sessions.

Response times vary depending on applicant volume and current openings. Many candidates hear back within a few days of submitting their application to schedule an interview.

Tutors typically:

• Work one-on-one with students
• Create customized lesson plans based on individual needs
• Support academic growth and confidence
• Track student progress and communicate with families and Kscholastic staff
• Help students develop effective study habits and learning strategies
• Submit a session report within 12 hours of each completed session
• Tutor minimum 4 hours per week

Tutors usually work 2–3 days per week, Monday–Thursday or Sundays, primarily during after-school and evening hours. Schedules are flexible and coordinated based on tutor availability and student assignments.
 

Sessions are generally 1 hour per week and occur at the same day and time each week. This consistent schedule helps students build routine and progress steadily, while also giving tutors a reliable and predictable schedule.
