About the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam)
The ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) is a standardized test used by many private and independent schools to evaluate student readiness for admission. It measures a student’s academic skills, reasoning ability, and preparedness for advanced coursework.
ISEE Levels & Who Takes the Test
The ISEE is offered at various levels, depending on the student’s grade:
- Primary 2 Level: for students applying to grade 2
- Primary 3 Level: for students applying to grade 3
- Primary 4 Level: for students applying to grade 4
- Lower Level: for students applying to grades 5–6
- Middle Level: for students applying to grades 7–8
- Upper Level: for students applying to grades 9–12
Each level assesses similar skills but tailors question difficulty to the student’s age and grade level.
ISEE Testing Seasons
Students can take the ISEE up to three times per year, once per testing season:
- Fall: August–November
- Winter: December–March
- Spring/Summer: April–July
Kscholastic recommends that students begin preparing at least 10–12 weeks before their target test date to allow enough time for diagnostics, targeted skill-building, and multiple full-length practice tests.
